Re: Your Favorite Ship Size
Although I think the LC is the best hull for the same reasons that Ragnarok wrote, I voted for the DN.
Why?
Because think the more easy way to defeat a good DN fleet, is using another DN fleet....

Re: Your Favorite Ship Size
I like most the H U G E ships. Imagine that you see a planet and... Wait, it's moving, it's a ship, not a planet!
I voted for "other", for my precious "Death Star" (44000 kt), a H U G E ship I made for creating Ringworlds or Sphereworls using only one ship and save the maintenance cost of smaller ships or stations until I have them all.
I know a real Death Star has 999999 times the size of the mine, but I actually cannot afford to construct and mantain one of those 120-160 km diameter space stations.

Re: Your Favorite Ship Size
I picked BC because it is large enough to hold all the goodies later in the game with room for a decent weapons package and because larger sizes start slowing down due to less engines.
BTW, aside from maybe a turn 2-5 explorer, does anyone use escorts for anything? I haven't built one in probably a year - for anything. I wish they were more attractive for use in mid game.
Slick.

Re: Your Favorite Ship Size
If I have x turns, the biggest ship I can build in x turns using a planetary SY. x is usually 2 or 3 in peacetime..

Re: Your Favorite Ship Size
I play mostly in high tech games and The lowest ship hull i use is probably light cruiser, for stellar manipulations and scout ships, i have used destroyers once though but that was before i added minesweepers on the scout
I picked battleship in the poll, gives you that lovely new mount but doesn't sacrifice that much speed, just lovely *sips cup of tea and acts all english*

Re: Your Favorite Ship Size
BBs move as fast as smaller ships in combat. The loss of 1 strategic move point compared to BCs is overshadowed by the Heavy Mounts. DNs lose 1 tactical movement compared to BBs, and have the same mounts. This is why DNs are not my favorite ship size. They are only slightly more effecicient in C&C and Engine space used, but this slight advantage is overshadowed by the slower tactical move. They can be out-flanked/out-ranged by BBs and smaller ships.

Escorts make good, fast, easy to built medical ships that can get rid of those plagues in a flash.
