Why arent Sprial galaxies spiral shaped?

There is a bit of fiddling needed to get the spiral to work out right.
You need to have enough stars that the arms get filled in, but few enough that the crossover is kept to a minimum.
I reccommend turning "all connected" off, and hitting "generate now" a couple times until you get one to turn out ok.
