Yes, it does sound like that.

I'm to find whatever sound effects get used in some space battles in anime series. It's used in quite a few, like the opening battle in the Gundam Wing "Endless Waltz" OAV that aired on Cartoon Network awhile back. It sounds like a few different weapon sounds combined.

Or maybe the original sound effect for the real Wave Motion Gun should go in?
