Tech tree question
In another post I mention a weapon that is eating my lunch (tachyon canon). Is there a way to determine which things to research to reach a given technology?

Re: Tech tree question
From the Newbie FAQ:
3.1 You can view the entire research tree by starting a high-tech game and selecting the option for “Players can see complete tech tree” under “Game Options”. This will make 2 new buttons available in game on the research window for the trees. They can be exported via this window to text files if you like.
There is also a word document which lays it out quite nicely in the download section.

Re: Tech tree question
After I posted that, I did a brief look for it in the download section and couldn't find it. Either I didn't look in the right place or I am mistaken. Either way, someone will post a link I am sure.
To find the download section, go to the root forum by clicking "Intel Forums" above and look in the first forum. There are a couple of SE4 threads with lots of files in them.

Re: Tech tree question
You could always open the data files and search for the item. Tachyon Cannons are a ship component, so look in Data\Components.txt.

Re: Tech tree question
You might want to try my modding program. (in my sig) It started it's life as a viewer to do in part what you want. You can view a compontent and it will show all the details about it. A list of the required techs will be shown. You can also click on the required tech to see if it in turn requires any tech.

This works on any tech level, not just high-tech. The only difference is that the techs you don't have will be greyed out. Still shows all the techs and requirements though.

This is the best!
You can see what it will cost to research up to that tech level (including prerequisities) in low, medium and high tech cost!
It's an invaluable tool for me. I use it often when I play those PBW games that I really put my heart and soul into.

Re: Tech tree question
There's also a text file at Kuat Drive Yards that shows all the techs in the unmodded game, in a tech tree format...

Re: Tech tree question
The tech tree .txt file seems to have disappeared from Kuat Drive Yards. Does anyone have a copy handy? Thanks, Joe
