Re: Has anyone ever seen AI use troops and capture a planet
I have ruun across enemy transports with toops loaded on them before, but I have never allowed them to live long enough to see what they were up to.
Guess I'll have to let one go once and see what it does.

Re: Has anyone ever seen AI use troops and capture a planet
I've been trying to get the AI to use troops by making troops a starting tech and telling to build tons of them and the ships to fly them around in. It builds tons of troops and loads them into troop transports, but after that it's like it doesn't know what to. The troop transports just wander around aimlessly looking lost. I have never seen an AI invade me or another AI.

Re: Has anyone ever seen AI use troops and capture a planet
I've been invaded by the AI ONCE. It landed 3 large or medium troops on a totally undefended planet and captured it.
I wish troops couldn't be killed from orbit without damaging the facilities and population. This would make them far more useful for defensive purposes. I'd really like to see some troop vs troop battles, complete with stalemates and contested planets. I had a contested planet once, and when you go back to the main screen it has a little message on the planet saying it's contested and whatnot. Unfortunately I promply re-invaded so I don't know what happens to a contested world when the AI's turn comes around.

Re: Has anyone ever seen AI use troops and capture a planet
I used the crew insurrection once on a random ship and got a transport with 10 troops. I invaded a nearby planet and it had a shipyard so I was in buisness . The AI doesn't usually load that many troops and if you have weapon platforms or sat's on your worlds you would be safe even if the AI tried to invade. They don't usually put non combat ships in their fleets. Maybe if we get a way to target WP's and not planets added into the strategies at some point The AI could possibly do this

Re: Has anyone ever seen AI use troops and capture a planet
My tweaked AI filled it's transports with troops so that wasn't the problem. They would kicked *** in a ground battle if they had ever dropped those troops on some poor bastard, but they never did.

When the ai's turn comes around you get another turn of ground combat. The battle continues with however many troops you have left against the troops and militia the planet can muster.
One thing I noticed once thogh. Each turn of ground combat the militia numbers are reset to whatever amount they had at the begining of the first turn. Same thing happens if you have two troop ships and the first ships troops are repulsed.
