Well, if you're talking about dtermining the distance to a system to see if you can open a hole to it, there's a box you can check that causes all the systems to show their distance from where you are currently sitting. Just remember, don't point to the system you want when checking distances, hold it over the system you are in and see all the different distances from there.

Well, I'd be glad to show you with a picture and all, but I don't have any games with an opener in them "hanging" around in my Savegame folder. Someone can probably tell you but as I recall, Last game I had it, it's a box/option along the bottom somewhere.

What box? And where is it?

He is talking about if you have a Warp Opening component (Gravitational Quantum Resonator) on your ship and you use it, a galaxy map opens up to select the target system. On the right hand side of this map is an option to show system distances.

If you don't have one, you can use the pythagorean theorem to calculate distances. To get vertical & horizontal distances, go to the normal galaxy map and count boxes. Each box equals 10 light years.
