Okkkaaaayyyyy!
What box? And where is it? He is talking about if you have a Warp Opening component (Gravitational Quantum Resonator) on your ship and you use it, a galaxy map opens up to select the target system. On the right hand side of this map is an option to show system distances.
If you don't have one, you can use the pythagorean theorem to calculate distances. To get vertical & horizontal distances, go to the normal galaxy map and count boxes. Each box equals 10 light years.
