Re: How best to use Null Space weapons?
Yes. I spoke too hastily. Engine killers don't skip shields. Sorry bout that.

WHAT ? Shield generator killers do not skip shields anymore !? Or Computer virus ? Please tell me you are kidding ! No, Cyrien is incorrect. The only specific damage weapon that doesn't skip shields is the engine only weapon.
Engine only = Does NOT skip shields, but DOES skip armor
Virus (MC only) = DOES skip shields and armor
Weapon only = DOES skip shields and armor
Shield Generator only = DOES skip shields and armor
Geoschmo In addition:
Only Boarding Parties and Only Security Stations have never skipped shields for as far back as I can remember.
These aren't used in the unmodded game, but they still work.

Nope. After research MC, the AIs ONLY will use MC.
Then, the AS became USELESS (because after the Lastest patches, can't take ship with MC anymore, even if the MC is destroyed).
Of course, that now, the AI is vulnerable against the Computer Virus.

Not so! I am currently playing my best ever game against the TDM races. I was hemmed in badly at first and the only way to gain tech was with boarding parties. I gained over half my tech by that method even though the AI used SDD! True, the boarding parties won't board with an SDD onboard so they just wait till a random shot takes out the SDD, then board. Sure, sometimes you get a gutted hulk, but on two glorious turns I captured ships with four different levels of engines and 4 turns later I had moved from CT I to JP II. The tide has turned in this game but I am still using boarding parties and still adding the occasional new tech even though boarding is getting tougher all the time.

And if you play a low-tech, tech-trading-impossible game like me (all Ice & Gas Colonization Techs I needed to know, I got from analyzing enemy Colony ships ), the AI will never use Master Computers, so you should be safe using the Allegiance Subverter all game long.
|
Just add high tech cost and that describes my TDM game perfectly. ...But all races are using master computers. *shrug*

P.S. Dingocat85, please change your avatar pic. I'm beginning to have fantasies.

But only in solo games with tactical combat ! Try simultaneous movements and you will see a difference. Actually, simultaneous movement will make solo plays much more interesting, IMHO
P.S> I am starting to have fantasies about Imperor Fyron avatar, but I am not asking him to change it

Re: How best to use Null Space weapons?
Oleg, I only ever play simul! I am successfully boarding SDD equipped ships in simul play.

Ouh. So you must be better then me in assigning ship strategies ! Usually I end up with all enemy ships mowed down to bare shell with one component What is your fleet composition ? Most ships are boarders, right ? Do you use temporal weapons ? TDB seems to be an ideal weapon for boarder.
