Default Aaron/Richard/Beta Testers

Have you developed a fix for the problem that is occurring with the AI's research subroutine?

The AI is maintaining a rigid queue of four items and as tech's are being research sequentially regardless of their % setting, this means that the AI spends too much time researching Theoretical Sciences.

I have developed an interim fix using two "spacer/filler" techs which works very well (AI researches the follow on techs more).

Would be interested to hear whether the problem will be fixed though in the new patch though.

Regards,

God Emperor

PS: The problem is mainly significant in the early stages of a game when there are lots of theoretical sciences to research and the AI does not have a lot of research points.

I have sent MM a report about this just recently, suggesting to remove the "Tech Area Min Percent" field completely (since it has not been used at all) and to make AI rearrange its research queue according to its AI_Research files. So far no answer, but it was sent just few days ago.
You could send a mail too, in order to bring MM's attention to the problem in case my mail got lost in the crowd (or maybe it ended in a recycle bin).

God Emporer-

I spent a lot of time in December with the AI_Research file (probably 50 hours min.) Anyway, the Darlok research file was designed to resolve that issue of mixing short and long term projects. The new Version coming out this week is even better, but the one posted with Mod Pack 1.01 does work and sticks to its guns when using 33/25/100 etc.

Tampa_gamer - how did you get the %'s to actually work.

In all of my studies, all of the % settings always resulted in 4 projects being put in the queue, with only one ever being researched at a time...

Is there a setting somewhere else to get the %'s to work?

Tampa_gamer,
Sounds like I misinterpreted you. I was originally talking about the % and how I couldnt seem to get it to affect the number of projects in a queue (always seemed to end up with 4 for me), but, assumed that you had found a way of using it to split points.

Just wondering whether the presence of even one 100% setting results in the queue being held to 4. When I was doing my tests, I didnt change the very bottom techs from 100%, but, in your Darlock file you dont have any. Hmmmm, sounds like thats it....

GE (God Emporer)-

I guess I read the Posts below wrong, I thought you were referring to how many projects would be in the queue at a time, not the % of RPs divided between them. I know of no way to divide % between projects. However, the number of projects and order in the queue is important so as to not waste spill-over points and prevent the AI from getting chumped on a large project early on. This does work [almost] as stated - however, it is tricky (i.e. I do not know 100% how or why). However, the Darlok projects are basically divided into three cats (33/50/100). I have found very little difference between 25/33. But when three projects are being added that are all 50, the AI will only put three in its queu (1 current, +2 at 50) it will then look for the next 25/33 project. If it does not find any, then it will keep to the 3 projects and add one when the current is complete. I found that a 25/33 project way down the research list will get bumped up sometimes b/c of this. But I agree, at a future point, I would like the ability to tell the AI what % of RPs to devote to a particular project when it is in the queue, but this will require coding.
