I remember how in my very first game I was extremely nervous because the description for my home systems star said that it was unstable and might go nova at any time...

My two home systems in a current game have that ability. Good thing it's set to 0% chance in standard.

I know some mods have changed that--has it ever been proven one or another if it works?

Isn't that bad?
Isn't there a 5% chance per turn of that star becoming a supernova?

Well, it never happened in that game or any other. So I assumed that it was just eye-candy. But like I said, I was pretty darn nervous for that first game.

Yeah, if our population would actually eat, then those planets with a high organic yield would become of some value.
