Also watch out for standard armor getting "upgraded" to Emissive Armor. And regular Shield V's (300 pts. each, IIRC) being upgraded to Phased Shield I's (75 pts. each, IIRC).

Re: Upgrading ships, etc?
I have also seen components randomly added when I did an upgrade....so, when you do an upgrade on an existing ship design, look it over carefully and make sure that you got what you expected.

They fixed a couple of those in the 1.19 patch (specifically, small armor was being upgraded to small combat sensors or vice versa). You might want to document any others you've found & send them to MM...

Re: Upgrading ships, etc?
One possible snafu - I noticed after upgrading a unit that I was told I needed to repair the upgraded component. Unfortunately, I had not yet researched repair!

Re: Upgrading ships, etc?
Ah. But you *do* have a shipyard/spaceyard, or did, anyway -- you needed one to refit. Both the facility and the component can repair damaged components; Repair tech just gets you a smaller, more efficient repair component.

Re: Upgrading ships, etc?
Component: Space Yard 1
repairs at least 3 per turn.
Unless you've got some sort of mod, any space yard will have some repair ability.

Doing that directly is silly.
Start with SY1.
Retro to SY1 +repair comp.
Fix repair comp
Retro to SY3 + repair comp.
Fix SY3
retro to SY3 only.
