2003 PBW Open Tournament Round 2 is open
Round 2 of the 2003 PBW Open Tournament
The PBW Open is a multi round, double elimination tournament. Round 1 consisted of 7 five player, Last man standing games. Round 2 will also be 5 player games. Players should attempt to, but are not required to, join a round two game with different players then they faced in round one.
Since the tournament is a double elimination tournament, everybody who played in round one regardless of win or loss is eligible to play in round two. In addition, I am opening the tournament up to anyone who wishes to participate. If you did not play in round one but you join a round two game you will be given credit for a loss for round one. Anyone who played in round one and chooses not to play in round two will be given credit for a loss for round two. Likely anyone in this second group will be receiving their second loss and will therefore be eliminated from the tournament. In the event any of the round one winners skip round two they will receive credit for a loss, but will remain eligible for round three if they are interested in continuing in the tourney.
The format and game size for round three and any additional rounds will be determined once the round two games end. The tournament at that point will only be open to players that won at least one of their first two games.
One of the round two games may end up with as few as four or as many as 6 players to accommodate everyone wishing to play. Also, a certain number of non-competing spots may be needed to round out the round two games. These spots will be open to anyone, including players already in another tourney game as long as they are not in that game.
Round two tourney games will have the following settings:
Games will be the following settings:
Starting resources: 100000
Starting planets: 1
Home planet value: Good
Score display: Own
Technology level: Low
Racial points: 2000
Quadrant type: Modified Spiral Map *
*Maps will be random, but with empires placed so that each player has decent space available
Quadrant size: Medium
Event frequency: None
Event severity: N/A
Technology cost: Medium
Victory conditions: Last Man Standing
Maximum units: MAX
Maximum ships: MAX
Computer players: None
Computer difficulty: N/A
Computer player bonus: N/A
Neutral empires: No
Other game settings:
Surrender disallowed
48 Hour, fully automatic turns
All players will play in the first two rounds. The format of the remaining rounds will be determined by the number of remaining players after the first two rounds.
Alliances and tech trading are permitted in game, but all games will be Last man standing, so bear that in mind while you are trading all those techs. Surrender is not permitted. If a player feels his position is untenable and wishes to withdraw he may do so. His place will be marked finished and the AI will control it to the end. The victor in any game will be the Last viable human empire remaining.

I know I shouldn't, but I will probably join the tournament, although the odds for a win seems against me. Can you choose the game you want to be in Geo, or you have to be in a specific game?

You can choose whatever game you'd like. For players that were in round one I'd like them to try and play against different people, but I am not going to make a deal about it.

Hey, Alneyan, you see that thread Loser started? "How many is too many?" Why, I am only in two or three games. Well, maybe five then. Or six rather. To that figure you should add this tournament, the Galaxy game, and perhaps Play by Commitee, and I consider joining another game, and... Ten games, no my calculations must be wrong. At least I am still quite far from Fyron and Tesco to name only them.
Edit: thanks for the answer Geo, I will apply for one of the games, hoping to be more lucky (or rather, less silly) this time. *Conspiratorial wink to Geoschmo*

Just keep playing. My round one game is still going on as well. All round one and round two games will have to be complete before we can do round three, but there is no reason we can't play rounds one and two sort of at the same time.
