Re: The Peace Thread
Here's something that always brings me joy on these forums... any discussion on what might happen in Space Empires V. There was a recent thread here {linka}

Re: The Peace Thread
Here we go again. Here I am saving my pennies so I can get on the same page with everyone playing SEIV Gold (rather than Version 1.49) and now we're talking about SEV. I know things evolve, but when I upgrade, I'd like to think it's going Last as long as the cheese in my refrigerator (sorry narf). Call me cheap, but it would be nice if a new design would allow for more creative modding, so that it could be upgraded rather than sent to the dust-pile.

Re: The Peace Thread
Gold does allow for more creative modding. Proportions and AIC mods, for example, are completely impossible under pre-Gold SEIV because of a few changes to Settings.txt that are crucial to the entire purpose of said mods.

Re: The Peace Thread
Besides, Gold has already been out for at least a year, SE4 for three. And SEV is just in the planning stages right now- it isn't even officially announced!

Re: The Peace Thread
Although I have run across some threads on the topic during the short time I've been posting to these forums, and come across "Proportions" and "AIC" mods in discussions, I'm new, and not yet knowledgable enough to understand the differences implied by these terms.
Perhaps a 'brief' explanation is in order. I have a CS degree and will not be thrown by mention of objects and such.
One concern: I agree that modding must be fun, and is probably something that I will enjoy doing, but do try to take care that the game does not become too complicated for non-programmers, or newbies in general. I'd hate to see a great game like Space Empires be marginalized for that kind of reason.

Re: The Peace Thread
I would like to see jumping through warp points added as an ability that can be given or taken away. I would also like to see the introduction of external ordinance racks as truly external, based on the size of the ship and not requiring internal space. Finally I would love to see the ability to treat ships as though they have the fighter ability to dock but not the fighter ability to heal after every combat. Then you could create non-jump engines that are smaller and faster than jump engines. The ships that have these could dock with carriers for ships with jump engines. Imagine jumping into a system, losing your jump carrier and not having a way to get back home. That would create a whole new dimension to the strategic element in my opinion. For the old gamers who like one engine that does it all they could just add them back in, or keep them in the first place and let people like me mod in the other engine type.
