Have you tried the Age of Wonders series? Specifically Age of Wonders II: Shadow Magic It comes pretty damn close to Master of Magic, but with better graphics, a wonderful AI, tons of user created mods on the website, random map generation, and easily created scenarios. Worth a look.

Isn't AOW a RTS game?

Age of Wonders is a turn based strategy, and while the original one wasn't all that special, the second Version, Age of Wonders II, along with it's succesor/add-on, AoW II:Shadow magic is most definitely not stale. The mod community for it is at least as good as SE:4, if not better (and I speak as one of the members and mod creators of both communities)

And like I said, Shadow Magic has a robust random scenario generator, better than the one I would say that was with MoM, along with a strong built in campaign.

To each his own, of course, and I can't really judge how you would like a game, but I suggest reading some of the top notch reviews it has gotten. I leave it to you to search for them, both because I don't believe in handing anything on a silver platter to anyone, and because any reviews I recommend might be suspect.

I actually like AoW more than AoWII. My major complain is the interface and ize of units. Small map viewing area and oversized figures makes the world looks small. Aow, in contrast, gives the impression of the grand, world spanning game.
