There is about 0 chance of added ship sizes in the new patch. plenty of mods already do it, and Malfador's focus isnt so much on adding features after this many years. Hopefully the focus is on SE5.
Ships can go up to maxint in KT. somewhere about 65K. you will need to make sure that components dont raise things like hitpoints or shields over that number, which may be problematic since ships tend to have more HP than KT.
my old Grit Tech mod (maybe i'll get back to it) didnt add significant numbers of hull types, but it did break them into categories. Essentially small medium and large, with more naval names than that. so of the 9 standard warship sizes in the unmodded game, I had 3 in each Category. Each was its own tech tree, and theoretically had its own advantages and function. Small Ships (ES, FG, DS) were 200-500. Capital Ships (the 3 cruiser hulls) were 1000-2500. Ships of the Line (BB, DN, BA) were 5000-10000.
I did run into problems where you could just pack too many components onto the larger ships, but that could probably be fixed with mounts. maybe i'll get back to it someday.
