What level of scanning tech do I need to root them out?

The scanner I prefer is to go to the center of their home system with a 'special' ship. This 'special' ship will then blow the entire star up and kill'em all! 
But seriously, if I recall correctly then you cannot scan the planets with normal scanners, you have to simply fly blindly in their home system (should be easy to figure out what that is) and then hope you run into them.

no scanner is good enough to penetrate the homeworld cloak. You have to blow up the whole system to kill the monsters. |

ok, if you put 'Sector - Sensor Interference' on a ship, does that affect all the ships on your side or just all the ships in the sector?
