Re: Chernobyl
As far as radioactive iodine goes, much of what we know about it was learned at Chernobyl. The medical applications of that knowledge saved my wife's life--radioactive iodine is used as a treatment for thyroid cancer. At least there's usually some good in everything.

Re: Chernobyl
Very thought Provoking site Timstone, thanks for sharing. The photos seems like they're from some sort of movie, but you see how they were taken (They aren't done by professional Photographers, they look like photos you and I would take, and that adds some integrity to it) Definitely a prominent warning we may be messing with things we're not ready for yet...

Re: Chernobyl
Wow, that little collection of pictures will really make you stop and ponder the meaning of it all. I wonder how many of those graphite time bombs are still cooking?

Re: Chernobyl
Nice site, but I think maybe they ought to try and preserve whatever historical artifacts, in the one picture, shes touching the old photos (a no no if I saw one)

How?
Really, she shouldn't even be there. She said herself it was only because of her father that she is able to get in.

Re: Chernobyl
That's a fascinating site. Thanks for posting it. I hope she doesn't get sick from the radiation, going into those abandoned areas. Yeah, I know she carries around that geiger counter and stays away from the really dangerous spots, but it still sounds risky...
600 years for the radiation level to go down sufficiently to be able to live there again... that's a LONG time!
