Is there any way to mod armor damage?
Is there any way to mod armor damage? I'd like to have double and quad damage as an option for Weapon Damage Type: in the components file. Shields is currently the only type that can do this.

Re: Is there any way to mod armor damage?
You cannot add damage types with the current game engine, and I don't think you could have a workaround for this. The "Double Damage to shields" only apply to the shielding around the ship, and not to the component itself, so adding a dummy shield ability will not work here.
The only ability anywhere close to this would be "Skip Armour", which allows the weapon to bypass the Organic/Crystalline armour special effects and the armour ability of "Is destroyed first".

You could have one weapon do normal damage, and a second weapon do a quarter the amount of damage but have quad to shields type.
That would effectively be "quarter to armor" (and internals)...

What I wanted to do was give plasma missles double damage to armor instead of skip armor. I wonder how technology will be handles in SE:V.

Double their damage, but give them half-damage to shields.

You'll *love* the way SE5 is going to handle this... sometime Last month, Aaron posted something on the Yahoo group about how this is going to work. Basically, you'll be able to specify your own damage types in a separate data file, so you could define (for instance) one that does quad damage to shields, half to armor, and normal to internals. You'll even be able to specify total immunity, so imagine powerful weapons that are blocked by the weakest of shields! Not only that, but you'll be able to define multiple *types* of shields and armor, so for instance you could have particle shields and ray shields, with lasers penetrating particle shields and DUC's penetrating ray shields... and anti-proton beams penetrating both types only 50%! That's right, SE5 will have leaky shields and armor actually built in without having to resort to any clever workarounds!
Pretty cool, huh?
