Re: OT: Star Trek: Enterprise
It does look pretty primitive compared to TNG, the ship has the whole "9 million buttons" syndrome going on and is obviously more cramped and with less ameneties than even the "original" Enterprise from TOS. I think that's probably the best they could hope for without having a totally bland set design. No shields and minimal transporter use do give a good impression that they're working with more primitive technology.
They seem to be going for a more active storytelling style so there are less 'fluff' episodes with nothing at all going on. A good first-contact episode is Cogenitor, but even that goes unexpectedly. (good story, bad turn of events) I get the impression they're leaving a lot of the gaps to the audience to fill in on their own, the more peaceful and less eventful stories that would have been TNG episodes are left in the background and referenced instead.
The time travel is hardly every episode, but it does show up 2-3 times a season, and more during the Xindi arc (season 3).. from what I've heard, season 4 will be a bunch of smaller, ~3 episode story arcs starting with the wrap-up of the Xindi arc. But the overall theme of the series has been it being a front in the temporal cold war so there are plenty of references to it and it's something they seem to want you to keep in mind.
You could always go read the five-minute reviews if you need a laugh. =)
Captain's Starlog: The Vulcan ship isn't responding, so we have no choice but to go tell the knock-knock joke in person.

Re: OT: Star Trek: Enterprise
What I hate most about the series is its inconsistancy.
In TOS they clearly said that the Romulan Human conflict was fought with primitive ships, IE limited Warp drive of 1, and neuclear weapons. The Romulans did not have a practical invisiblity screen until TOS and as we all know, Balance Of Terror, clearly pointed out its flaws. It could be tracked by motion.
What would have worked best is if they had already had the Romulan conflict and THAT is why they formed Star Fleet.
The Klingon things also bite my arse. Here they have a good platform for explaining the differance from TOS Klingons, as confirmed in DS9 Episode Trials and Tribulations, and they have done nothing.
I would love to see the "evelolution" of star ship design in this show as well. Also they did not have photon torpedos until they were invented shortly before TOS era.
Deep breath. This can all be explained away by time travel and other things as well.
Time travel, in the end, Archer is given the option of preventing his hole mission from starting by ending the war before it ever began and thus the incident where the Klingon that came to Earth and started his mission, never happened.
The Romulan thing can be explained away if they do not do the time travel redemption thing, by saying it was classified do to fear that that people would begin discriminating against Vulcans.
The whole klingon thing can be explained simply as an espionage project. Klingons were altered to look like humans in order to undermine the foundation of UFP. Get neutral and newly discovered planets to fear humans, and they would welcome the Klingons, the real Klingons.
Again, I dispise the ship, AKiraPrise just looks horrible. I do love the cast and have enjoyed many of the stories and such and do want the series to continue, but I have missed over half of the episodes this year, and really have no desire to watch new ones. The whole thing is just done to death.
I want to see more of what Schamo has written for ROTRS intergrated into Enterprise. After all the two stories are very simular, both planets are beginning to explore space and are learning harsh lessons. The thing is, Sachmo has nailed it, while the writers of Enterprise have only partially nailed it.
Sachmo, GO TO HOLLYWOOD and pitch some episode ideas!. Make Enterprise interesting again.

Re: OT: Star Trek: Enterprise
What really got me was when Braga said that they chose to create a new alien race to menace earth, the Xindi, for season three because no one wanted to see any more of the romulans.
Personally, I think the Romulans should be the focus of the Enterprise series.
The original series had Klingons, TNG had the borg, DS9 had the dominion, Voyager had male crew members, and Enterprise should have had the romulans, but instead we get villians of the season style episodes.

Re: OT: Star Trek: Enterprise
You are right,
What I realy hoped to see was the 'Birth of the Federation'
And see how the war against the Klingons and Romulans started (all the politics involved etc.....)

Re: OT: Star Trek: Enterprise
And now the news is Brent Spiner will have a guest appearance as the Great-Grandfather of Dr. Soong, the creator of Data.
I guess thank goodness for small favors, at least it won't be Data in another time-warp story. I could see them discovering the severed head of Data in that cave near San Fransico, having him for an epsiode or two, and then putting him back where they found him so Starfleet archeologists could discover him once again in the 24th century.

For all the Star Trek we hold dear, let us hope they never read that Last message!

Re: OT: Star Trek: Enterprise
You know they'll do it sooner or later.
I know they were also trying to get Shatner and some of the original series cast to come on and visit.
Personally, I'd like to see something on Enterprise no one else has seen... Braga getting fired on the show. I want to see the cast pick him up, shove him into a torpedo tube and fire him at the nearest fanboy delight. I have no beef with berman since he's only there to make money. Braga is the sick fan boy with wet dreams of spandex.
