It sounds like you have correctly installed the mod.

Update your SEIV installation to 1.91 as SJ has instructed and the AI tag error will go away.

Place the Planets, Components, Facilities, Combat image mod files into your BASE SEIV Pictures directory in their respective folders. You will only be asked to over right the Facilities.BMP, Components.BMP, Planets.BMP, and Combat.BMP in each of those folders.

The reason for this is simple. Those BMP are the minis and if you compare them to the original ones you will see that the new ones are much much larger than the old ones.

Also I strongly recommend that you download the latest FQM mod from www.spaceempires.net and install that mod. That way if you get any errors that a back ground image is missing, namely Nebula5 or other, you can copy the FQM Stellor images from the FQM mod into the Star Trek Mod folder and take care of the problem. Also there is an on going thread discussing the Star Trek Mod.

Please feel free to post in that thread if you run accrossed any bugs or have any more questions. I like to keep them all gathered in one location even if it makes finding info a tad hard. At least its all in the same thread.

There are a few tips in order to make the game run faster. Turn off MINES, and Adv Ship Construction, and Shuttles. This will increase your turn time significantly.

Also the Dominion race has new updated ship images. You can download them from http://www.astmod.com/nasy/Dominion/Dominion.htm DO NOT USE THE AI FILES. Just use the images.
