How about really high reproduction and colonization rates and call the race "Tribbles".

Should be very passive, shouldn't covet allies' planets etc.

Should be very hard to scrape off your shoes - i.e. glass all their planets in a system and next turn they've already re-colonized all of them, and 10 more in the next system.

Racial traits should include max reproduction & ship building & maybe min maintenance.

Could be a lot of fun.

Tribbles would also have max happiness (unless the klingons are in the game)

For that matter why not have the Gaelic Hunting Chickens in the game. Death dealing chicken creatures, dyed in warlike colours, cousins to MOO2's Alkari. Honourable and warlike, with an inflexible "pecking order".

How about earthworms (anyone else remember Earthworm Jim?)? Low intelligence, high luck, high strength; maybe high cunning, since they should be able to "squirm" out of political arrangements...

Or maybe dolphins. Supposedly they left Earth just before the Vogons destroyed it (in the "Hitchhiker's Guide" series). High intelligence, very peaceful; probably not so good at resource production...
