You are describing the "Damper Field" from MOO II. It reduces all damage by 75 percent. This is a nifty concept and an excellent "alternative" to shields. With shield-facings in MOO, there was an interesting trade off between being able to protect your ship completely from a fixed amount of damage and having the options to turn your ship in another direction to use a fresh shield on the one hand, and being able to sustain truly awesome total amounts of damage with Xentronium armor and the Damper Field, and not having to worry about "shield facing" on the other hand. We have requested something like a Damper Field before. Either he doesn't want to do it, or has too many other things to worry about right now.
