Problems with modding
Sorry if this is a silly question. I took my first step in modding; i built a new shipset. Well, ok, i altered the color scheme of an existing shipset just to have a shipset to test my new race with. Problem is, when i try to Add New Race in the new game window, I get an error message saying that it cant display the Race Portrait. Can anyone help me out here?

Re: Problems with modding
I don't know what you have done so far, but these are the steps to check:
1. Make a new directory under pictures/races called whatever your race is called. (for instance "xyz"
2. Put all the gfx files in there. Make sure you have ALL the pictures from the shipset you copied. The message indicates the race portrat is missing - this is the picture of the alien's face itself, not the ships
3. Rename the pictures to the format xyz_Portait_Battleship.BMP
(name_picturesize_shiptype.bitmap format)
You will need ALL the pictures - Portrait and Mini. Make sure they are in bitmap format (not jpg or gif or anything else)
That should do it.

Re: Problems with modding
Also check your spelling and make sure your race directory name matches the race name of the picture files. I have found that problem in a number of races I downloaded from other sites.

Re: Problems with modding
gosh, don't i feel like a complete moron!!!
thanks for the help, guys, it was a "typo"
the folder was named "xyz empire", the bmps were named "xyz_racial_portrait.bmp" etc. etc. etc.
No wonder it didn't work!

OK, now i've got another question. this is about board etiquette. Now that this topic thread has served it's purpose, do I need to delete it? CAN i even delete it? sorry, but i'm a pretty green greenhorn.

Re: Problems with modding
No you needn't delete it - in fact, you couldn't, and shouldn't, too:
Anyone with a similar problem could find it doing a little search .. would have helped if you had mentioned the actual problem in the header, but it's ok the way it is ..
Hope this helps ..
