Default You must travel 5 systems & return 5 mins ago

Great game. However:
1) Campaign 2 - must travel 5 systems to pick up cargo and return, in the time it takes just to get to the pick up!
2) Campaign 3 - go 3 systems away and blow up stuff. Travelling at top speed (800) in cruiser only just get to system let alone get aggressive, and time has expired, return to base to be told "Loser!", end of game. "Go away."
Now that's a bit un-chum-like.

You are (at least) the second person to complain of this. I've not seen it, but...

It sounds like some sort of bug with the time calculation. Do you have any save files from before the mission? Or just after the mission was assigned?

I'm assuming the mission in Campaign 2 reads like the following:

The TCN has agreed to supply our forces with weaponry, covertly. Go to the TCN starbase in the Oloron system and pick up a cargo load of Quantum Warheads. Bring the warheads back here without being stopped or diverted. The Xiati appear to be employing the Pirates throughout the neutral territories to help in their war effort against us. The Pirates have been attacking supply shipments trying to get through from our Terran allies. You may encounter Pirate or even Xiati warships trying to prevent your cargo run. May the vapors guide you.

This is "Abbidon Operations 2", which gives you a time between 100 and 120 days to complete.

I did that run in my modded Xiati Battleship (I've modded all ship speeds and maneuverability in relation to size and weight). But even modded that ship has only 640 top speed. I got there in time and back just fine. I zipped in a straight line from each warp point to the next, shooting all hostiles on the way in passing, exploiting the 180° firing arcs of my ship. But this isn't the first report of time being too short, and not only for this mission. I guess it's a very good idea to keep multiple saves before missions, just in case. At least until this bug, whatever it is, is being fixed. I'm not sure, but I think reports of too little time to finish a mission have only come from people who use cruisers.
