Invisible objects
Am I the only one still getting invisible ships, planets, etc, in the 1.15 patch?
I suspect that every system has at least one invisible object. You really only notice it when it is your ship, an attacking ship, or a starbase/planet that you are interested in.
I went through an entire system looking at every asteroid, etc, and did find an invisible satellite.
(You can check asteroids by getting into the field, setting radar at 75ls, and checking each one in the radar field.)
My "log.log" file is full of
02/02/2004 9:45:10 PM *** ERROR: DrawIndexedPrimitive HRESULT = 32 ***
Like 200,000 lines of it. (Different time stamps...)
Windows API error 32 is "SHARING_VIOLATION". What it is failing to share, not quite sure.

Re: Invisible objects
I'm finding them too. In fact, there appear to be many more invisable objects now than before the patch. I just write it off as cloaked ships/planets etc, that aren't fully functional. Works for the story point of view.
"Oh look, those silly Terrans turned on their planetary cloaking device again. And it's still not working right."
Where's Scotty when you need him...

Re: Invisible objects
I have the same problem. I have found that actually quitting the game and starting up again from scratch causes the objects to draw again.
Whenver my own ship goes invisible. I just save my game. Quit totally of of SE:SF and then load up my saved game. Problem fixed. A little annoying but it doesn't take that long to do.

Re: Invisible objects
Turns out this is a known problem (for StarFury) with the NVidia cards.
If you look at StarFury file "Log.log", it is full of an error message.
You should periodically delete Log.log, as it was 32Meg the Last time I deleted it....

Re: Invisible objects
I am pretty sure some kind of resource is not being released by the game. Because every time I load a saved game the problem gets a little worse. And quitting and restarting the game entirely fixes it. So the game is probably holding on to some resource.
P.S. I have an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, not a Nvidia card. And the problem affects me as well. So I doubt the problem is driver specific.

Re: Invisible objects
Hmm, that is not what Aaron had been saying. So, you are correct. It is more than a specific card issue.

Re: Invisible objects
When I upgraded my nVidia drivers to v53.03 I had all kinds of problems With StarFury. (Invisible objects, exit to desktop, black screen on load etc.) Since these problems started immediately after installing the 53.03 drivers it was not hard for me to figure out. I reinstalled the v52.16 nVidia drivers and everything ir running fine again.
I just thought you might like to know this.
Cheers!
P.S. StarFury is not the only thing that the v53.03 drivers broke, I couldn't play any DVD's because it always thought my TV-Out was active and therefore couldn't get past the DVD protection scheme.
P.P.S.. As for it not being a 'specific' video card issue, it might just be that the most recent drivers for both vidio cards has implimented some kind of DX9.0b tweak that overrides something SF is trying to do. After all, the main reason video card drivers are updated is to have them adapt and take advantage of new features in DirectX. SF was written for DirectX 8.0 I believe. so something in the drivers and DirectX might have been broken in the process of upgrading drivers to take advantage of DX9 features.

Re: Invisible objects
I haven't seen an invisible (sic) object in a while. Now, I was playing with the performance settings of my NVidia GeForce FX Go5650 card, and maybe I changed something that fixed the problem. What exactly I did, difficult to say. But I was playing with the performance stuff to get another app looking nicer.
So, possibly adjusting the performance settings of the card may fix the problem.
