I think cold auras would be more problematic...

Re: IF IW will implent some new -major- contents to Dominions II. what should it be?
"That was what I had in mind actually, a newspaper [...] a few lines about the big events that happen on the other side of the world."
Let's push that real news bit...
Whenever a battle is one of the, say, Five Greatest in History then show it to everyone. Big battles are where strategy comes into dramatic focus and seeing them would be way more exciting then hearing that "Abysia really took it to Man" third hand. It's also realistic that this kind of news would travel fast.
Greatest could be measured just by the summed Size of the smaller force. The goal is visual impact for the observers after all! A brief time lag could be used to prevent vultures from gating in.

Re: IF IW will implent some new -major- contents to Dominions II. what should it be?
Both of the choices on the poll would be welcome, if done well. However, I might rather see other game mechanics additions/enhancements.
For example, a better way to handle what happens when units have no retreat path, or when lurking units are detected and run away. I'd like to see some of them surviving but hiding out scattered in enemy provinces, some eventually finding their way to a friendly province, some getting caught and surrounded and having to be killed rather than auto-eliminated, etc.
Or, more tactical options such as skirmish fighting tactics, orderly retreat when badly hurt or overpowered, units specified as a reserve to replace the front units when they are worn out (e.g., Roman tactics), etc.
Edit: actually, above all, the more modding features, the better.

Re: IF IW will implent some new -major- contents to Dominions II. what should it be?
As for the newspaper idea, some occasional information about distant provinces would be interesting, but then there should also be false rumors and the ability to plant false rumors. Also, the game already has the ability to send scouts (human, beast, or various magical) to foreign lands to get reliable information. It might be enough if some major events would generate semi-reliable rumors for listeners in adjacent territories. But if someone is lurking under the ocean and not sending out any scouts, they shouldn't get the Old York Times delivered to their hearth.
