Re: Dom-PPP: The Disappearing Scales
I'm talking about Dominions I here, Priests, Prophets and Pretenders, not the demo for DomII. Sorry about the confusion, but the PPP in the title should have made that clear. That's why I'm confused. I haven't actually had a chance to download the demo or install it yet.

Re: Dom-PPP: The Disappearing Scales
All right, it's time to apply my feared skills of Threadomancy to this thread and bring it back from the dead.
The problem is rather persistent and not going away. I uninstalled Dominions, then reinstalled in a different directory (on a different partition, no less!), ran Norton WinDoctor and my Abysian scales are still gone and not coming back. Just gray boxes where it says "God's Dominion". The scales are still effective, and individual province scale values are seen, but not the god settings.
Has anybody else had this problem with any nation in Dominions - PPP? I suppose I'm going to have to do a registry sweep to see if that will help any, but I'm not going to hard format and reinstall the whole machine from scratch just to solve it.

Re: Dom-PPP: The Disappearing Scales
There have been countless fixes for Dominions-PPP. Have you downloaded the latest patch from www.illwinter.com and installed it?

Re: Dom-PPP: The Disappearing Scales
If you mean v1.15, yes, I have. Now that you mention it, I forgot to run it after the reinstall, but it had certainly been applied to the original install before the problem showed up.
Then all of a sudden when I designed a new pretender for Abysia, the scales just vanished from the display, which was annoying but had no other effects. I suspect a corrupt registry key is the culprit, since the new install is also affected.
I'll see what the patch does, though, but I don't think it will affect this much. No biggie as such, though, I can play without those scales showing, not having the province ones displayed would be far more annoying.

Re: Dom-PPP: The Disappearing Scales
Dominions doesn't use the registry (except for uninstall), so that can't be it. But it certainly seems strange. Do you have enogh free space on your c: drive? 100 Mb should be enough.

Re: Dom-PPP: The Disappearing Scales
The problem is still persisting after applying the v1.15 patch. Both the partitiuon where I have it installed now and where it was previously have >1 GB of empty space, so it's not that. I'm still blaming Windows for screwing things up, but I did notice that the patch failed to update one of the two DLL files it tries to modify. For the first one, it gives me "cannot update, access denied" or something like that as an error.
Not that this problem affects actual gameplay, it doesn't, but I was wondering about it. No need to waste time trying to look for it on my account unless it's a quick thing, use it on DomII instead.
