It'll probably also affect how soon you might get them. There's nothing quite like having Bart the Patriarch show up at the beginning of your second turn.

I'm not sure that this is entirely true - although it was said by a lot of people. Either way I think Kristoffer or Johan said on one of the threads that in Dom II there is a base chance per turn of getting a hero, which increases or decreases with the luck scale, such that misfortune 3 = 0% chance of heroes. This effect is cumulative, so if you don't get a hero on a turn, your chance next turn will be higher, until you get a hero, in which case it'll start over again.
I *think* the figure was 3% base chance /turn of getting a hero - thus 6% with luck 3 and 0% with misfortune 3 /turn. Thus with neutral luck by turn 10 you would have a 30% chance of getting a hero, whereas misfortune 2 would reduce your chance to 10% by turn 10.
