Re: Off topic List your top/favorite 5-10 comp games
Hard to define the TOP 5 for me, so I won't try. Here's a list of my all-time Favorites in no particular order:
-Master of Orion II: mainly for the multiplayer ability -- though that community has pretty much died out now =(. I LOVED the flexibility of that game. The AI sucked, but the options available in multiplayer when customizing races (especially with some player-created mods)and the major differences in gameplay that various racial abilities gave is so far unequalled by any game I've ever seen except MoM (see below).
-Space Empires IV: mainly because I love rules-tinkering. The AI is frankly pitiful and doesn't provide much of a challenge with any mod that I've found or created. But I keep playing and tinkering, so I must like it =) I just keep hoping that a lot of the underlying problems will be fixed in future patches...or better yet, that Aaron will answer my long-ago email volunteering my time to help write code in the game =)
-Asheron's Call: though I got out of this game a year or so ago due to addiction factor destroying my life =)
-Master of Magic: If this game had multiplayer ability, I would STILL be playing it.
-Alpha Centauri: I still love this game, though the AI could still be better. The multiplayer works...but not very well. *sigh* Relegated to a PBEM game at this point.
-Stars! Eagerly awaiting the sequel
-Might & Magic series and Heroes of Might & Magic: crappy graphics, but I still love 'em . I hope 3DO weathers it's current crisis and makes more of this series.
-Planescape Torment: The engine was decent, but I have never in my life seen a better storyline for a CRPG. Wow. I just wish they'd make expansions for that game (though they might have to use a different character..heh)
-Civilization: the game that began an entire genre (well, Civ I did anyway) deserves a mention in my list of Favorites, even though I hardly ever play it any more (Alpha Centauri and Civ:Call To Power are much better IMO).
There's LOTS more games that I've played, but I'd have to say those are probably my Favorites. Some of them I even still play =)

1 - SE IV - of course
2 - X-com : the original - fun squad based combat, you can blow everything up
3 - SMAC - a planet based 4X where you can design your own units
4 - MOO2 -
5 - Pirates - an oldie but a goodie.

Re: Off topic List your top/favorite 5-10 comp games
No particular order:
1) SE4
2) Heroes of Might and Magic III
3) MOO2 (Anticipating MOO3!!!)
4) Civ2 (Waiting for Civ3!)
5) Lords of the Realm (Wishing for #3 )
6) SmacX
Others: Age of Kings, BOTF, Imperium Galactica 2, Colonization and "Privateer 2 - the Darkening" (Wish they'd make a sequal too)
I'm also anticipating the release of Stars! Supernova Genesis.

Re: Off topic List your top/favorite 5-10 comp games
Current Favorites:
Diablo II -- It just rocks
SEIV -- no need to explain
USAF -- Good fighter sim, I like it
AoE II -- good game
Somewhat good games
Sim3K -- SimCity 2000 was fun, and this is a good extension of it, but some parts are lacking, and are less then expected
Oldies but goodies:
Sim2K
Any of the X-COM series
Command and Conquer Red Alert
StarCraft -- its old, face it

The two will hover, spinning inches above the ground. With a giant buttered cat array, a high-speed monorail could easily link New York with Chicago.
