So it appears that the problem is his .2h file that he's sending you. Is he sending it as an attachment, or zipped as an attachment? Do you have some anti-virus software running that scans your e-mail and might mess with it? I could be totally off-base here, but I would think that a PC and a Mac save files in a totally different format (which is why, for example, games and programs have to be re-written for specific OS's).

Dunno...just guessing in an effort to help out.

The game files are compatible - you can play with clients/hosts using different operating systems.

Edit: Are you using the same Version of the game (patched or unpatched)?

That's where I think the problem is. I've tried to install the patch, but I'm pretty sure I've been unsuccessful. Maybe my computer doesn't do what it should automatically, but for some reason, the dominions2 patch (I think that is what it is) is just sitting on my desktop waiting for me to tell it where to go. Problem is I don't know! Any clue where to put it on OS X?

But why do people play PBEM when a network game is one thread-request away?

I'm always hosting new Dominions 2 Network games and so are a bunch of other people. I feel PBEM is a waste of time.
Why should you want to host a 2-player-game between me and a friend where 1 turn every 2 days or so is played?

That's definitely the problem. See this thread for a full explanation.

Don't know if this is relevant in any way, but. At work I've transferred files from mac to windows or linux (email attachments and usb storages, same thing in both), and they seem to appear 'double'. The catch is, only one of the files is real, the second is some definition file or such used by mac system and does nothing, just has identical name but different size. Obviously, the wrong file doesn't work.

From other OSs to mac, no problem noticed.

This is just general remark, haven't tried with dom files...

I think you are supposed to be able to change host this way, should the host quit (his nation gets wiped out or something). At least in dom1 this worked.

I dunno, that would be pretty stupid. I usually host for around 6 players. Right now I am running a 12-player game. my 6-player game just ended.

If none of the players in a PBEM can reasonably have a server running all the time, tcp/ip may not be an option without third-party hosting. And if the pace is slow enough, PBEM isn't such a hassle - if everybody password-protects his own game, the host can just zip the whole lot of .trn files and send them to the whole list of players.

That way, you don't even depend on the goodwill of someone not in the game. As long as you can trust the host, it's a perfectly viable option.
