Re: Blood slave units - transfer?
As far as the AI having information on the whereabouts of your Commanders: have you ever heard of Astral Window? The AI has and seems to like it. You can actually see which provinces have Astral Windows in them (besides your own) if you cast Eyes of God.

Re: Blood slave units - transfer?
So I could, say, transfer some blood slaves to a commander, have the commander retreat from a fight (but have another commander win it), reap a few blood slaves as personal units, Gift of Reason one, and Empower it with blood magic?
WOOHOO! Irony, here I come!

Re: Blood slave units - transfer?
Do you think it might do that in combat? Now I have to find out!

Re: Blood slave units - transfer?
Is that Irony or Pathos? It's definitely cool.
I love Gift of Reason. I particularly like my old blind crippled Machaka Archer Prophet... It's just somehow right.
I'd love to be able to capture enemy blood slaves and gems like magic items.
And how cool would it be to take one of those 'liberated' blood slaves, give her Gift of Reason and some weaponry, maybe a year or so in the Military Academy with a Champions Skull on her nightstand...
What other game offers such depth?

Re: Blood slave units - transfer?
I wish to report a bug. When you make a blood slave into a blood mage, send her into combat, and order her to sacrifice herself for a spell, the game crashes.
MUAHAHAHAHA!

Re: Blood slave units - transfer?
Bleed. Do you want the saved game? Many things are going on, but the only 'odd' command was sending a blood slave with blood magic into combat and ordering her to cast that spell.
If you do want me to email you the saved game, let me know the address you want it sent to. I probably won't be able to send it to you for around ten hours.

Re: Blood slave units - transfer?
That's hilarious!
Does it happen again each time if you back up the save position and try it again and again?
I've been using blood magic for about 80 turns, and haven't seen any of my slaves turn into units yet. My blood priests often kill their whole supply during combat, though not always.
As for the AI cheating to know about your movements: not only does it know about astral spying, but it also seems to send out an awful lot of scouts and other stealthy units all over the place. When I turn up the patrols and provincial defense, I frequently catch one or two nearly every turn.
That still wouldn't explain reacting to provincial defense raised during the same turn.

Re: Blood slave units - transfer?
It happens consistently, yes.
I'd love to hear other people reproduce my results. You could probably do so quite easily with an edited .map file.
It's just difficult enough to get slaves to turn into units that it will rarely happen by accident. I gave five to a surplus leader, sent him into a fight I knew somebody else was going to win, and had him retreat immediately.
