Re: Two questions on Quickness -- Special Smite-o-Mat Recipe
Sword of Switfness gives 2 attacks, not quickness.

Re: Two questions on Quickness -- Special Smite-o-Mat Recipe
there is also the jade armor which gives quickness IIRC
a stupid question (could have checked myself but I'm @ work): do shrouded casters have half upkeep (I dont think so!) ?

I don't think so either. Item says they get blessed even if not sacred. Sacred is what gives the reduction, not blessed, so the logical conclusion is no.

Two Quickness Types If it's in the same Type it does not stack.
Natural Quickness
Hall of Fame Quickness
Blessing Quickness
Magical Quickness
Quickness (Spell)
Quickness (From Item, including Boots of Quickness and Jade Armor)

Mmm...that would be quite nice for some of the 300+ gold spellcasters, if it was the case. I've never used the lichcraft spell, but doesn't that do a similar thing (except make them undead and so reduce upkeep to zero)? - ignoring the obvious gem cost and undead vulnerability.

Lichcraft is a Summon. It does not change an existing unit, but summons a Demilich who is an undead, immortal, death mage.
