Aim on melee troops?
In my recent C'tis game my saromancer with a random air pick cast Aim on some city guards. This was even with other targets in range that could use the extra precision. So is this a bug, or is there some actual benefit of Aim on melee troops?

Re: Aim on melee troops?
At current the game is fairly inept when targeting Aim.
The range is also relatively short. This is why Wind Guide is so much better.
If you want Aim cast on commander(s) you have to keep the mage casting aim ~10-15 Blocks from any of your troops or they will most certain get the aim rather than the caster/commanders.

Still... it has to be a bug that it is cast on units that can't use it. I would't mind if it was only cast on commanders and archers.

Everyone can use it. Ever hear of Javelins?
The game just doesn't differentiate very well.
Like I said, at current it doesn't do it very intelligently, like Breath of Winter, but it's hardly a "Oh my god! I can't believe it" type of situation.

Sure some infantry have javelins, but most (like city guards) don't, which means that casting Aim on them is wasted, whatever the situation.

Re: Aim on melee troops?
Well it's not a bug then. It just doesn't know which units have Javelins vs Bows vs Commanders who are going to cast spells that require high precision.
I think it has been mentioned a few times before, that Aim needs it's targeting fixed, the same as BoW needs it's casting fixed.
Right now it's less than optimal, but if you know how it works you can make it as effective as it can be (since it's a very small AOE)

Re: Aim on melee troops?
I think the answer being sought is that Aim can miss too. Chances are those Sauromancers were just trying to target the ranged units next to your City Guards and didn't quit hit their mark.

No, I'm quite sure he was aiming for the city guards. It happend several times and in each the guards were at the edge of the spell's range and the only other units to aim at were himself and units on the other side of the spell's range.
