Hehehe, you might call us hardcore-gamers - but this is NOT an option for us. It gives a special kick when you don't know who the other player is ... especially because we all know each other in RL.

Or ... let's say it like this. If Malfador wanted us to use e-mail for ingame communication why did they implement the message option into the game anyway?

There are loopholes in it (multiple gifts to AI to make them not as angry at you, for example), and there are some truely valid reasons (such as demanding removal from two systems, stop ship attacks, and stop intel attacks). At the very least, if this is to be changed, a few players need to think about every possible loophole (aka cheat) with multiple Messages, ways to prevent their usage, and write everything to Aaron.

Or, another thing that could be done, have each message contain multiple parts. You can say everything you want in a single message (add a scroll bar to the text area in the news). Give a gift of technology and request one in return. Demand that the weak empire give up an outer system and submit to a Protectorate treaty. Et cetera.

Oh yes ... I don't want to force Malfador to implement cheat/exploit options into the game (I hate cheating) ... so your Last proposal would be a good option.

Thank you for your comment on this.

Hmmm... I never considered a multiplayer game where all the players are anonymous. Sounds interesting

As for the reason the message option is in the game, I always assumed that it was there mainly for the treaties/demands/gifts/etc., and the General Message option was there simply because the mechanism is already there and it's amusing to see an AI with a home atmoshpere of "None" talk about the weather...

As for the patch (forgot the entire original point of the thread ), I haven't heard anything about a beta patch, and I just did a quick check of the FTP patch directory, and there is nothing new. I'd try an e-mail to Richard, since Aaron is likely busy (since there hasn't been a new patch in over 3 weeks, and nothing has been heard).

--edit, in reference to above:

Which one?

Thank you Will for the information. So we probably will have to wait quite a bit for the correction of the bug.

I sent an email to Aaron this week to make sure he had been informed about the 1.35 command line run bug. He replied that there hoped to have a new patch by the end of the month.

I was not aware of the fighter bug, but assuming someone has let him know about it my guess is that's one of the things they are working on too.

I don't see only allowing one message per turn as a bug, but Z is right that it should allow more room in the message. I too prefer not to have any game related contact outside of the in game Messages.

Hi everybody

I just received an e-mail from a friend of mine about the upcoming patch and I'd like to quote one line of it to bring our latest discussion to a temporary halt ...

9. Fixed - Long Messages to other players would get cut off in the Log
Window.

I am quite content with that idea ... no need for more than one message in the game after this. Hope that the patch will be released soon.
