The Eater of the Dead's an interesting unit, if you're just toying with the AI and have oodles gems to spare.

Once, out of sheer perversity I summoned it, then Gift of Reasoned it, and then empowered it (!) to Air-3 / Earth-3. I equipped it with an Amulet of Antimagic and a Lifelong Protection, then had it Cloud Trapeze into Machaka's capital with a script of Invulnerability / Mistform / Summon Earth Power / Attack. Combined with feeding from Black Death, it grew quite nicely...

Interestingly, it kept the magic once it became Unfettered, but it discarded the script in favor of casting minor magic. It also eventually gained heroic strength (eh), but lost it when I re-enslaved it (whereupon it also lost the magic for good, pity).
