Blessings are only affected by the pretender's starting magic levels, not by anything that happens during the actual game.
That said, it's still rough to lose that final point of magic considering how much it can cost.

It is my understanding from reading the manual and post relevant to the subject that bless effects are applied at pretender creation. To get them you have to invest creation points in the beginning and any gains in magic paths as a result of items or empowerment during the game will not unlock further bless effects. It would seem logical that the opposite would be true.
