This is a solid, although not monstrous, SC. However, the GK don't really play that well with Arco, as you sacrifice your access to the Priestess healing by being undead: In the new Versions, priestesses cannot heal undeads.

Re: Newbie guide to SCs?
You should give a look to this classic: The Ten Whammies in Dominions
It was written for Dominions:PPP, but most of it remains valid for Dominions 2. The first 'whammy' deals with Supercombattants.

Re: Newbie guide to SCs?
Off the top of my head, just off of what I listed, I'd go with the Ice Devil. He's got a decent stat edge over the others, and will strike on turn 2. If he's also the defender, and gets to move first, he'd sack the VQ with her shields still down and probably kill her in one or two hits.

Re: Newbie guide to SCs?
Actually my build of SC's has changed significantly with the change to Elemental Armor. I have always been a fan of Resistances over 'fluff'. Here are a few examples of the new era of SC's.
Golem:
Blood Thorn, Charcoal Shield, Skullshine Skullcap, Jade Armor, Boots of Flying, Ring of Tamed Lighting, Ring of Frost.
(Replace the Thorn/Charcoal Shield with a Wraithsword if you don't have blood)
Bane Lord
Wraith Sword, Skullshine Skullcap, Jade Armor, Boots of Flying, Ring of Tamed Lightning, Burning Pearl (Or Ring of Fire)
Ice Devil (everyone except Edward Iceciclefist)
Blood Thorn, Lucky Coin, Copper Plate, Skullshine Skullcap, Boots of Flying, Burning Pearl (or Ring of Fire), Ring of Regeneration
Arch Devil
Blood Thorn, Lucky Coin, Copper Plate, Skullshine Skullcap, Boots of Quickness, Ring of Frost, Ring of Regeneration.
Try those out for playing against Mages.
