Default question on saving game

I have a question about how to save game when I'm half way through my turn, and get interrupted.

If you connect to the host, issue some of your orders, and then save your game without hitting "end turn" ("e"), the next time you connect to the
server, it will upload your turn the moment you connect. If you are the Last person to submit, this will trigger the host to advance the turn, right?

Thus, it seems that the safest thing to do is to fully run your turn when you first connect, then hit "e" to end turn.

But, suppose I am half way through my turn, and have to quit. Can I save my progress then later choose "play existing game" and complete my turn locally?

If I do, then upon completing orders, do "end turn" and then connect to host and it will upload the orders you saved?

Thanks!
Merry

Default Re: question on saving game

This is what I do:

1) Connect to server. If there is a new turn waiting you will download it. Then you can click your nation's name to play. Don't do this. Instead click "exit." This will go back to the main menu and disconnect from the server. (You can disconnect from the entire Internet if you want).

2) Click "Play an existing game." The game will be available for you to play. You can play, save, exit, end turn, whatever, as much as you like. When you are happy, select "end turn," then exit. (i.e. click the word exit, you dont need to exit the entire program).

3) Back at the main menu again. Now reconnect to the server. Your finished turn will be uploaded.

This also works well if you are in a place where your internet is paid by the minute, or if you are on a laptop and not always connected, etc.

Also: If you click "save game and exit" while connected to the server, it will submit your (unfinished) turn and not tell you about it. So don't do that. You absolutely must remember to go back to the main menu without opening your turn.

If you accidentally open your turn while connected to the server (it's easy to forget and do it), the only solution is either to play the entire turn right then, or to exit the program (by using the close-X window control, not any of the in game options) and restart it. The game has a very strong urge to submit incomplete turns to the server and you have to be very careful to prevent this from happening.

That is very helpful advice, thanks. I've shared it with players in a game I'm hosting.
