Re: Texture comparison
About new TerranC's avatar: David, how do you do this shiney effect for your avatars? Could you share the template?

to make an avatar look like this..
This is the procedure in Artgem. Sorry there is no easy way I know of in PSP without making multiple layers then merging them in at the end..
I hope this helps. Cheers!

Re: Texture comparison
I'm not crazy; I'm only doing this for the fun and to satisfy my insomnia: Most of the shipset models are now finished, and I've only got a few more to go until I start to render the set.
Here are the models I've made so far, in no particular order:
Scout
Cutter
Escort
Corvette *
Light Frigate
Frigate
Heavy Frigate
Light Destroyer
Destroyer *
Heavy Destroyer
Light Cruiser
Cruiser
Heavy Cruiser
Battlecruiser *
Battleship
Dreadnought
Heavy Dreadnought
Baseship
Heavy Baseship
Massive Baseship
Escort Carrier *
Light Carrier *
Carrier
Large Carrier
Massive Carrier
Fast Transport
Small Transport *
Medium Transport
Large Transport
Huge Transport
Space Station
Cargo Station
Space Fortress
Large Space Station
Battle Station
Large Battle Station
War Station
Starbase *
Orbital Fighter
Attack Fighter
Small to Massive Fighters
Small to Large Interceptors and Bombers
Drones, Mines, Satellites
All 4 weapon platforms
Starliner
Large Starliner
Barge
Mining station and ship
the asterisk denotes that you've seen the ship in this thread.
Models I've yet to make:
Worldship
All troops, including infantry
which I will make this labour day monday.
I guess I'll go to sleep now, stay tuned to this thread for more information.
Edit: Also, I would like to point out that all models currently finished with the exception of the weapon platforms are asymmetrical.

Re: Texture comparison
I've been hearing from some people that the "backward" (they're not backwards, grumble, grumble) portrait pics are somewhat quirky to their eyes and feel that they should be faced the "right" way, that being where the back of the ship is on the right side of the picture and the front of the ship being on the left side of the picture.
While I personally feel that there is nothing wrong with the pics, and that they add visual flavour to the set, I am nevertheless only a humble shipset maker that will render pics at your whims; the customer is the king, as they say.
Thus, I have flipped some of the pics the other way, and have created the Sev Backward Pictures Response Pack, which will replace some (ships and drones, not bases) portrait pics with new ones.
You can choose to download the pack, but it won't do anything to harm your enjoyment of the set if you won't (and I recommend that you don't, personally).
You can download it by clicking on the attachment link above.
