Default Up Coming New Races

I have been given approval by Ghost, of SFC fame, to use his Star Trek Models to make several new races for Star Trek.

They will include;
Original TOS (yes, all TOS ships, no TMP ships.)

Original TOS TMP (Trek Motion Pictures) With all TMP ships through STVI.

Kingon TOS
Romulan TOS

Gorn TOS
Kzinti
Lyarns
Hydrans TOS
ISC &
Orion Pirates TOS

These ship sets will take sometime to compile, and once they are done, they will be availible for download. However, the contents of these ship sets CAN'T be used in other ship sets without Ghosts approval. That will be stated very heavily in the documentation that comes with the sets.

As I type this, I have just completed piliminary work on the Federation TOS. The ships in this set are all Star Trek Tv series style ships.

After I am done with this set, I will augment the TOS TMP ship set that I have already made with ships from Ghosts TMP series. This will give the two ship sets a seperate idenity from one another, and allow for each to be played indepenantly.

The set after that, will hopefully be a Klingon TOS followed by a Romulan TOS, and then the remaining sets in order. Again, this is going to be a long process, so please be patient.

Sorry, no Vulcans this time, but give me time.

What I would like to ask is for AI designers to volunteer and design AI for the races. I am not an AI person, but I know many of you are. So if you wish to through in on this project with me, please let me know. Thanks.

Atrocities - Don't worry about spending time with the Kzinti's, I had already started on them along with thier AI. I can also work on the Gorns since I'm in the process of changing the Gorn ships in SFC to the TOS Gorns.

How did you get m6 to work though, I get the same error on both my computer at work and at home:

Assertion Failed
Program D:\MILKSHAPE\MS3D.EXE
File: C:\projects\MS3D\MsLib\MsLibModel.cpp

Expression >=0&& nlindex<pModel->nNumMeshes

and can't figure out what's going on (especially as I don't have a C:\projects directory - didn't work adding one either)

Sound good too me.

M6 works with a lot of the files, but sometimes it just gives me an error message. But for the most part, as of Last night, most of the ships I opened with it worked. 75%

EDIT: I think you have SEME, and not M6. SEME does that to me too. I will send you what I have via email if you wish, and you can try it. It usually works well, and is very easy to manipulate the images. Post here if you want me to send it over. Leave your email as well. END EDIT

I also have another program for viewing images, but it works only on professional grade images created by such programs as Lightwave, 3d Studio max, Broice, etc.

The programs name is 3d exploration and you can download it from www.download.com Its a trial Version, so keep the zip handy. It may work with some 3d meshes, but most of the SFC ones it won't open.

Oops, I was refering to to a different program on the same site as sfc2ed. I was having problems with sizing in sfc2ed (DN's and BB's too big) so I was tring to use a .dll plug-in on his website that allows opening of the sfc .mod files directly into Milkshape so that I would be able to adjust the size better for SE4, and still retain the skin from the Mod file.

Magnum357, by all means please make your mod. I am only using TOS ships from SFC,and some modified Versions for TMP.

This is what I do to get images. Its crude, but it works.

I use the M6 program to view the image.
I use the M6 program to set the image in a top down view.
I Screen capture it. (Alt Printscreen)
In PAINT, I click edit, and paste.
I grab the section that I want and copy
I open a new page, yes I save the old page too.
I paste the copied imaged onto the new page and a save it as "Mini 1"
I repeat these steps for a Portrait view and save it as "Port 1"

This way Mini and Port 1 are for the same image.

I then use a program called AcDSee ( www.downloads.com )to set the images in the correct direction, and to resize them to a minimum of 200 width. (Lenght falls in automatically, and I leave it alone unless it equals the width, in that case, I simply resize it to 128.)

I auto adjust the pitures if they need it.

I then open the saved "Editted" images with PAINT, and copy the image to a 400 by 400 new form. I center the image, and using the paint all tool, make the back ground yellow. I then fix any minor masking problems.

I turn the back ground back to black, and save the image back to the same name that it originally came from after being editted (Always Mini 1 and Port 1 on up.)

I then us ACDSEE and resize the images using the crop tool. I can also, mostly in portrait views, just resize them to 128. The crop tool is great for geting ships to look differant sizes. You may have to play around with it a bit, but altimately, you can get the image you are seeking. (Always save the images as alternates like Mini 1a or Mini 5a etc.)

Thats pretty much what I have been doing from single scrimishes in SFC, only using Paint/Photoshop/ImageExplorer (scanner software). I ran into problems with some of the larger ships not fitting in the window in sfc2ed, so I've been using SFC and trying to extract the mod files with attached 'skin' into milkshape where I can convert the image into a format that I can zoom/rotate/render the ship in.

Do you have a wheel mouse? If so, the wheel will increase the image size or decrease it. Hope that helps.

Thanks! - have a wheel mouse but have never used the wheel on it so I didn't even think of trying that.
