Forgetful Sentries
Is there a way to have a ship/fleet on "Sentry" orders and return to Sentry orders after a battle? I sure wish there is a way to do this but I am not very hopeful. I'd like to keep ships/fleets at warp points or planets on sentry duty until *I* tell them to change orders. As it stands, if a ship/fleet on sentry duty engages in a battle or simply sees an enemy ship, it clears its orders and never goes back to sentry duty.
Is there another way to accomplish the same thing such that on each turn I only have to cycle thru ships/fleets that are new or have completed existing orders?

Re: Forgetful Sentries
Has anyone got "Sentry, Repeat Orders" to work?

Re: Forgetful Sentries
That would not work, because Repeat Orders only repeats orders that are still in the orders queue. When the Sentry order is cleared, it is no longer in the order queue, so it can't be repeated.

Re: Forgetful Sentries
Rats! I was hoping that the order wouldn't be cleared if there was a "repeat orders" following it.
Is there any way to make this work?

I do not believe so.

Re: Forgetful Sentries
Since the ships were involved in a combat you can just use the "go to" from the log screen and re-issue the order...

I don't remember if this works, but have you tried "move to current location, repeat orders"?

Re: Forgetful Sentries
Maybe I have my forces spread too thin, but yes, I could do that for the site of the battle. But that doesn't address all other ships in that system that now have had their orders cleared because they "saw" the enemy. I'm currently playing a game where there are numerous warp points that I'm defending (probably about 40-50). Also there are a few border systems that I have yet to fully control. Each time an enemy makes it into a system, all the ships in that system "awaken". I am probably issuing 100+ sentry orders per turn and it is very frustrating.
Maybe it's time for some stellar manipulations to simplify the map.
Would "move to [current location], repeat orders" work? [edit: looks like we both typed the same thing at the same time]

d'oh, why did I forget this? That is the solution to have a ship permanently stay put (in simultaneous movement games).
