here is what lingchih did to get the mods working on a mac:

t's simple, but not very well documented. Most of the Dom2 files (maps, etc.) reside inside the Dom2 Package on OSX. But the mods directory lives in the Dominions2 game saves directory, at the root of the hard drive. Just drop your mod in there, and it will work just fine.

as to patches, they should just work, but i remember some people having problems - I'd suggest trying to install an earlier patch (2.12, or whatever) and then applying 2.14 on top of it. I seem to remember that, or something similar, was the solution.
