Simultaneous Game Question
First, thanks for all the good info on this board. It's made the game much more enjoyable for a new guy starting to play!
I loaded the latest patch (1.91) and installed the TDM mod-pack but I'm not running any other mods.
I had a couple questions about setting up a simultaneous game...
1) I noticed on the empire selection screen there are now a bunch of empire variations after loading TDM. For example, United Flora 2000, United Flora 3000, etc. Obviously those empires use that many points. If a 3000 point game is created and I have the AI opponents included randomly, is the game smart enough to load the "correct" point value empire? For example, I wouldn't want all the AI races to only use 2000 points in a 3k/5k points game.
2) Also, our group generally turns intelligent projects off. Is it possible to edit say the United Flora 3000 race and redistribute the points they have in intelligence and then resave it as "United Flora 3k No Intel" and everything still work? On that same note, is there anyway to actually add that empire into a simultaneous game instead of letting the game randomly select?
Thanks for the help!!

Empire files are only used if you manually load empires. If you let SE4 randomly generate the AI empires, they will never read the empire files, but will instead be created from the corresponding AI files. The empire files are only included so that you can easily start a game with a specific set of AI opponents if you so desire. Note that you must edit each AI empire file after you add it to make it "controlled by AI."

Yes you can do this, but you must then load the AI empires manually each game, rather than let it randomly select them. The alternative is to edit the UnitedFlora_AI_General.txt file in the TDM\Pictures\Races\UnitedFlora file (and the same file for all other races) and adjust the values in there. Doing this will insure that the AIs added randomly will have changed point distributions.

Re: Simultaneous Game Question
Thanks for the quick response
I'll try editing the xxx_AI_General.txt file and see how that works. I saw three race options in each file, I'm assuming each of those correspond to either 2k,3k, or 5k points?
If I did want to manually add the empires instead, how would I do that in the MP simultaneous game? Every time I try and add more than one empire (as the host) it says something about only being able to add 1. If I try to just add a computer controlled empire it says it must be human controlled. I'm probably missing something obvious, but any advice would be appreciated!

Re: Simultaneous Game Question
If you have any question about the AI files be sure to visit www.spaceempires.net and read through the 101 tutorial.
Any question you have you can post here or in the SE.net forum. Also there is a lot of very useful info about modding in the SE.net forum that at some point you might be interested in.

Re: Simultaneous Game Question
I think AI opponents in a MP TCP/IP game can only be added randomly.
