Default Please to meet you and SEIV questions...

Hello everyone. I have been "lurking" in the background of this forum for some time now. I fell in love with SE with SEIII and had to buy SEIV. It was unfortunate that Australia doesn't sell SEIV and I had to buy it from the US which cost me $117...but it was all worth it. I hope I can make a good contribution to these forums.

Now, I have some questions regarding SEIV. I have created some large troop transport ships and have included it in my "Beta Fleet" (has about 24 attack ships). Unfortunately, I found that the troop transport does not drop troops in planets. In fact the other attack ships destroy the planet even before my transport can drop troops. If I just use my transport by itself, it gets destroyed by the weapon platforms and sats

My questions is this: If you want to capture planets, what is a good combination of ships to use, such that the weapon platforms and sat is destroyed BUT the population remain intact so that my troop transport will drop troops and capture the planet.

I hope that makes sense.

Thanks in advance.

Good evening TNTTony and greetings to Australia from Europe!

I think you speak about strategic combat because in tactical you can move first your attack ships into place and wipe out all enemy weapons. In strategic combat you have to set the fleet strategy to "capture planet" and to mark the box under "damage" in the empire strategy window "damage until all weapons gone" for this strategy. The secondary strategy for "capture planet" should be "optimal weapons range". In my experience this works in 95% well. Sometimes if the planet has a low population and few facilities and your attack ships have powerful weapons the Last shot that takes out the weapons takes out also the population and the colony is destroyed.
Hope this helps!

Damn exchange rate. I was lucky... i got my copy before the aussie dollar sunk down to where it is now. Only $103 for me

Good to see another Australian, although we are a minority with only 1.4% of shrapnels sales, we make up for that in game...

Something else to try for planet capture: for the Capture Planet strategy, set Transports to not break formation. Also, put a weapon or two on the Troop Transport. With this combination, your transports won't hang out at the map's edge till the planet's ready for taking. Elsewise, they may not reach the planet to drop their troops before time expires. (Realize this is mainly theory, since I've only attempted one small planet capture in strategic, but it worked like a charm!)

Welcome, and I hope to you out on Play By Web!
