Re: SEV Betatest...
No longer under construction. It's now an upgrade in progress.

My wild *** guess: MM page will be some kind of April Fool's thing (poisson d'avril)
WAG2: A really slick new page, with shinies.

I don't think so. My guess is that MM decided to look creatively for origins and create brand new trend in CG - 3D ASCII graphics! That's why after site upgrade you will be able to access it via telnet only (to sync it with new se5 interface).
Proof:
1) DG mentioned several times that he designed game graphics in retro style. ASCII is a maxim of retro.
2) Have you seen computer specs for se5? No! In fact se5 won't work with you athlons, p4, geforces and radeons. Anything better than i386 and trident 512k will cause an error "Please downgrade your computer and reinstall the game".
3) There was an anxiety that modern CG will ruin great gameplay of se series. It seems Aaron decided to listen to this opinion and to not bother with fancy effects. 256 colors are more than enough.
4) Such approach allows to minimize expenses for development.

Re: SEV Betatest...
Hmmm, I find this odd...we have a new webpage already up, but it does not have the beta tester list that was said to be up today Then again, today isn't over yet

Re: SEV Betatest...
Very much larger system maps. I counted a radius of 12-14 on that hex grid (12 if you go in exactly a straight path out, only possible in 6 directions, 14 for the farthest edge that requires a little zig-zagging to get there from the center), compared to just 6 for SEIV.

Re: SEV Betatest...
Oh well, I guess I'll just have to hope the RTV Atull game finishes up soon and then eliminate two rivals ASAP.

...and I wonder if a top-down view will be available.
