Re: OT: Master of Orion 3 is now working.
Im pretty sure this is not really that new. I was visiting the atari boards all few weaks, and indeed someone created a tool which allowed it to patch MoO 3 to fix certain bugs, and once in a time there were regulary new patches released. The problem with MoO3 for me was just that i was unable to control my entire empire, like i can do in MoO2 and SE4. I doubt that is fixable

The problem with MOO3 is that they took out all the fun stuff. which is essentially what makes a game a game.

Thanks for the info, however no amount of modding can fix what was wrong with MOO3. If you happy with it, well thats cool, but it left a horrible taste in my mouth. It will not poisen my HD again.

Re: OT: Master of Orion 3 is now working.
A couple of us all downloaded the "2nd" Patch which I can only assume your talking about. I'm unaware of any follow up patches. It fixes some of the more irritating problems but not all. All I know is that when you get big enough to need the computer to run some of your planets, don't be surprised by what your planets are building!!! We came up with a new name in MOO3 for AI (Asinine Intelligence).

Huh? There was actually three patches for MOO3... a data patch, a 1.2 patch, and a 1.2.5 patch. The last is what everyone uses, and you are correct - like the previous patches it fixed some of the problems but not all. Those unresolved problems have now been fixed, however and not by any follow-up patches... if you read the first post at the top of the thread you'll realise that the game is now being patched by the fans, and most of the bugs have been fixed in this way.
I will say one thing about your comments about the AI... if you were trying to play it the same way as you play SEIV your going to run into trouble... MOO3 is not a micromanagement game, it's macromanagement. You generally shouldn't have to run your planets yourself... you use the dev plans to set up guidelines for how the AI is to develop your planets. If you don't use your dev plans, then you should expect to be suprised by what the AI is building, because you haven't told him anything different.
As has been said on the MOO3 boards : "Its not about controlling all your planets. Its about controlling the algorithm by which the AI chooses what it will build on your planets....."
See the Strategy forum on the Atari MOO3 forums here for more info on how to really play MOO3, (since it requires a dramatically different style than your average 4x game), and especially the "Development Plan Guide" thread you'll find there.

Re: OT: Master of Orion 3 is now working.
I have the 1.2.5 patch and some mods from the board. I un-installed the game about a 1½ yr. ago.(not sure what's happened since) I'm talking about planets all built to the max and computer controlled. The last time I ran the game I had enough ground troops to conquer the galaxy 5x's over. That problem was supposed to be fixed in the patch, but their fix left a lot to be desired. I think it's great that the fans of the game have (once again) bailed out a faulty product. This is why I specifically look for games that have editors or scenario builder in them. They allow for greater flexibility within the game and allow user to run the game that they like. I just recently purchased War Engine and love the flexibility of being able to design the "Whole Game".

You'd be refferring to Bhruic's Patcher program, which is used to fix most of the problems. Their are several other things fixed by several other people and methods. He's still working on patches even now.
As for being unable to control your whole emprire... yes, it's a very different game to SEIV, and is focused on Macromanagement rather than micromanagement like SEIV. To really enjoy the game, you have to adopt a different playing style than you would for most 4x games, and that's what caused many people to turn away from the game, (not to mention all the bugs, of course).
I'm glad to see someone has decided to at least check it out. If it doesn't appeal, fair enough... not everyone will like the game even when it's working properly. It's just that type of game. But for those people who would like to see it as it should have been when released, I felt I should put the word out so they don't miss the chance.

Re: OT: Master of Orion 3 is now working.
Thanks again for the info. There was a lot I did like about the game, but the bugs and unfinished feel of the game made liking it a chore. I am glad to see that a few folks held onto the ideals of the game and are trying to make it a better.
Thanks again for posting about it.
