everyone knows you get the iorn oxide by moistening steel wool an leaving it to rust. And the aluminum dust by taking a steel file to an aluminum ladder. You kids these days with your shortcuts.

Now here's a question - Did it have to be Mt. Doom, or would any source of lava do?

Yes, the ring was forged in the fires of Mount Doom, only there can it be unmade, Mr. Anderson. |

I'd say it would have to Mt. Doom, in the ID mountain range just before Mt. Quake.

 | Yep, I have tons of rusting iron around my house here, but I'm just too lazy to take a file to it and get enough rust! Which is why I was looking for the easy route. But the easy route is expensive. So I'll make my own rust. As for aluminum, well that's simple. I have a half pound of pure aluminum that I cast into a throwing star shape in metal shop class at school a couple years back. Easy enough to grind down.

Re: OT: Know any good Canadian chemical suppliers
I think I remember one of the books saying that only the fires of Mt. Doom were hot enough. Now, nothing is said of any other volcano that I can remember, so it may have simply been a lack of other options that forced them to go to Mt. Doom.
