Default Getting AI to surrender

I have a good advantage on a race and have been picking his ships off easily.

I read that blockading his homeworld will eventually get him to surrender.

Would it speed things up if I blockaded more of his planets?

Yep, every planet you blockade cuts off the resources of that planet from his total. Assuming you have pretty much wiped out all his ships, those resources are probably the majority of his score total. Once his score gets low enough compared to yours, he will surrender if you ask him too.

Yes, although it depends on a lot of things: AI surrendering is based on the difference between your score and his. Blockading his planets will decrease his resource production and therefore decrease his score.

Also, blockades make the population unhappy. Throw in some local military victoris and anarchy group intel projects and you might be able to force the planet to revolt and form a new empire. A one-planet empire would be far easier to force into surrender than a fully-fledged AI.
(response within 10 minutes, how many other forums can say that?)

Damn it - beaten by 2 minutes. Grrrr.

Be aware though that some modded races have been altered so taht it is almost impossible to force a surrender - especially the psychopathic races (Crysonlite, Rage etc)

Thx to both!

Playing my FIRST game ever. Created my own race, kept most options at the default. I am in contact with 3 races and have 120,000 research points per turn. Finally feeling ready to pick off the other races one by one.

Another question (expect many for awhile)

Do Mines have to be places right on top of the waypoint to activate when a ship comes through or can they be off one spot?

Mines need to be in the same square as the attacking ship. If you want to defend a warp point, then it's probably best to put the mines right on the warp point.

I assume you're talking about the normal systm view, not the combat view.
