Re: OT: Random Reboots
By default, XP reboots every time an error pops up. You can turn that off, so a error pop-up just pops up. Weird, yes, convinient, no, why they did that in the first place, noone has a clue...

Re: OT: Random Reboots
XP does a re-boot on errors that would cause a blue-screen of death. It does this so you don't have to manually reboot your computer. Usually it will ask you to send off an error report when it re-loads, in which you can get the same information that would have been displayed on the BSOD message.

Re: OT: Random Reboots
Could be as simple as your video card heating up. When my system reboots it always tells me that it was the Nvidia Device that caused it.

Re: OT: Random Reboots
Don't discount one of the previous recommendations either, which is to clean the dust out of the computer. When I start to get frequent re-boots, I'll dust the inside with some compressed air and things run much more smoothly.

Re: OT: Random Reboots
I had this problem once and the RAM had gone bad. Replaced RAM, problem went away.

Re: OT: Random Reboots
Thanks, guys. I've disabled the automatic reboot, so hopefully next time it happens I'll get an idea as to what's going wrong. I'm fairly sure it's not heat or dust, since I cleaned the thing out a few weeks ago, and the machine's in a well ventilated area. Plus it just doesn't get hot enough in Ireland for anything to overheat.
