Why does the AI consider a mere 8 range to be maximum weapons range when the ship is carrying a gun with 10+ range?

The dumb siege ships are sitting, stupid ducks for even capitol class ships!

Hmmmm....

Although Capitol Ships are slightly faster in combat, the siege ships aren't keeping safe distance and get ripped to shreds.

Gotta play around with some stuff.

Does the ship have other weapons besides the 10+ range? For example, a 10+ with reload 3 plus an 8 with reload 1? It might be thinking "maximum range of weapons ready to fire".

My modding attempts are less ambitious. I'm currently playtesting a new quadrant type. I'm slowly progressing on an AI or three as well.

There was a problem with mounts several patches ago where the AI would not recognize the extended range granted by a mount. It would think that the 'default' range was the only range that the weapon had and not fire until the target got within the default range of the weapon. I had thought that was fixed, but you never know when some odd change might re-create an old bug.

Only gun, 10+ default range.

I even tried giving it a minimum range of 8. But they always go to range 8 and end up not being able to attack at all.

Hopefully its a simple fix and MM can take care of it for the upcoming patch. Seems like a major bug to me.

I'll be carrying on with the tech trees meanwhile.

What's the secondary stratagy? For maximum range, that is by default point blank, which is in my opinion rather stupid.

maximum, maximum.

Even tried maximum, don't get hurt. to no avail.

I went through pretty much every combination I could think of with no success. They close to 8 range and get hammered, even when I bring their range all the way out to 20.
